yPublisher

yPublisher is an integrated publishing suite developed to allow creation of interactive content - professional quality online tests and exams, reference materials, and other publications. The yPublisher suite also provides an extensive management solution to effectively support your project throughout its entire life-cycle, and a flexible playback and viewing system which can be used in a wide variety of environments, and which aids in the automatic collection and analysis of results. yPublisher is designed to maximise the productive output of your group, whilst simultaneously reducing operational overhead and support requirements.
The yPublisher Suite of products includes 2 core components:

yPublisher Portal

The yPublisher Portal is a complete eContent publishing solution that combines the functionality of various applications during the development of a professional learning or educational package. The yPublisher Portal includes support for bug-tracking (tools to monitor and manage issues related to mistakes and modifications), task management, and overall project management, so you can be sure that your production runs smoothly and efficiently. yPublisher provides all of these features on a single system, negating the need to purchase and maintain multiple systems traditionally required for professional production. In this way, yPublisher is able to handle all aspects involved in the eContent publishing process.

The yPublisher Portal is the future of online educational publishing. Dynamic Layout support provides the option to include graphics, sound, movies, or animations (slideshows, etc) in the project. Integrated SML (Script-Markup-Language), an innovative solution based on LaTeX and created by YDP, allows for content-defined editorial data, giving the editor more control over which elements appear in the material. Built-in analysis and previewing features accelerate the development and final production time-lines by reducing the need for post-production testing.

yPublisher Editor

With the yPublisher Editor, content creators and editors are given a vast array of user-friendly tools and features to assist them in creating professional quality content. A wide range of advanced layout options provide editors with an unlimited variety of designs, allowing them to customise the look and feel of the project on both macro- and micro-scale. As yPublisher Editor separates content and visual appearance at a base level, the look, feel, or text of a project may be modified at any time without incurring additional operational overhead - even minutes before completion.

yPublisher's PDF2Flash component converts PDF (Adobe Acrobat) documents into the SWF (Adobe Flash) format files, not only giving the editor the chance to define active and dynamic areas, such as external links, players, and multimedia assets, but also taking advantage of Flash's widespread adoption and compatibility, compared to the PDF format, which requires a third-party application for viewing. Flash files may then be embedded into projects using the yPublisher editor, which adds an extra dimension of interactivity.

The yPublisher Player is the key component for playing educational, training and instructional materials prepared in the yPublisher Suite. The yPublisher Player is able to play both reference material (e.g. glossaries) and interactive content on many devices (such as PC/Mac, PDAs, E-Paper, compatible mobile devices, etc), and can scale the size of content to fit the device's native resolution. The Player also enables previewing of the project material and content at any stage of development.

With yPublisher, your group can work collaboratively - locally and on servers, using an inbuilt version control system (SVN), which allows many people to work on a project concurrently whilst minimising production conflicts. SVN compiles a complete development history for each project, which includes but is not limited to SML Content-Related Definitions, digital media files (SWF, JPG, MP3, etc), single-page layouts, and even entire lessons. With SVN you can rest assured that your project is free from mistakes and accidental file modification/deletion.
